NON-LEAGUE expert Paul Maddison (@LouthBigDog) shares his favourite fancies from the weekend’s National League action.
The games are coming thick and fast in the National League, with the majority playing their third league game of the season this weekend.
Having looked through the fixture list there is a couple of decent priced away teams that I fancy. I don’t think the advantage of playing at home is as big in the lower leagues as it is in the higher divisions; this can sometimes lead to some good prices for clubs on their travels.
Eastleigh v Dagenham & Redbridge | Saturday 12th August 2017, 15:00
First up, I fancy Dagenham & Redbridge (101/50 Marathon) to maintain their 100% record.
They travel to Eastleigh who have also had a good start to the season with four points from six and are yet to concede. The two teams they have played don’t have the quality that they will face when playing the Daggers, though.
Eastleigh finished last season in 15th, 27 points behind this weekend’s opponents and lost to them home and away without scoring a goal.
Dagenham have scored twice in both of their games so far and have looked good going forward with Michael Cheek catching the eye, especially in their opening game of the season where he scored the team’s second goal of the game with a cracking strike from the edge of the area.
Dover v Wrexham | Saturday 12th August 2017, 15:00
Next up is Wrexham (13/5 Marathon) who also travel to the south coast, as they take on Dover.
Both teams have had a mixed start to the season after picking up a win and a loss in their opening two games.
Both clubs have made big changes to their playing staff this season, especially Dover who I feel look weaker this time out, especially having lost last season’s top scorer, Ricky Miller, who netted 40 of their 85 goals.
Wrexham, on the other hand, look a much stronger squad, especially defensively and will be looking to push on after getting their first points on the board in midweek as they beat Maidenhead.
