In a mouthwatering National League clash, Notts County host National League newcomers Altrincham at Meadow Lane.

The visitors faced up to the loss of one of their star players in Jordan Hulme, who joined AFC Fylde just last week, following the departures of Steven Drench, Elliott Durrell, Max Harrop, James Hooper, Craig Mahon, Lewis Walters and Elliot Wynne.

The Robins kicked off the campaign with a goalless draw against Weymouth at Moss Lane on Saturday.

As for the hosts, Neal Ardley’s side suffered a slender 1-0 defeat at the hands of Dover at the Crabble Stadium on Saturday. County will be looking to go one step further on last season’s showing, after reaching the play-off final back in May, losing out to Harrogate.

Bizarrely, this is only the second time the two clubs have locked horns, with Notts emerging victorious in a 1-0 victory back in 1972.

The hosts enter this one as the overwhelming favourites, given their form last season, but I for one, believe that Altrincham will pose a tough test with the pedigree of Tom Peers, Daniel Mooney and Josh Hancock.

County boss Neal Ardley will be looking for a response from his players following Saturday’s defeat to Dover and this match will be heated, physical and we’ll see a goal or two, I reckon.
