NON-LEAGUE nut Callum Jones (@Goaldust) has found a selection in Tuesday night’s National League program to share.
Dover v Southport | Tuesday 19:45
Over the past 18 months, Dover have proven themselves as one of the most consistent sides in the division. Since their promotion in 2014, their National League record reads W34-D18-L25 and they have averaged just over 1.50 points-per-game, which is fantastic for a club with a fairly small infrastructure.
Dover lost only one of their first 15 games this season; a dramatic 3-2 defeat at Cheltenham, and have only lost back-to-back league matches once – a great indicator of a side who don’t get too down on themselves after a reverse.
The Whites sit eighth in the National League but have games in hand on all of their rivals, including five on Wrexham, who currently reside in the final play-off position. Dover are 4/5 (Skybet) to finish in the top-five, which shows the confidence the bookies have in Chris Kinnear’s troops.
Tuesday’s opponents Southport find themselves in an all too familiar position – a relegation battle. They may currently sit six points from the drop zone, but there are teams with games in-hand on them and I actually think the 11/1 Skybet are offering on a bottom-four finish represents some decent value.
Southport’s mid-season renaissance has long since departed and they’re without a win in eight League games.
To make matters even bleaker, the Sandgrounders have scored only three goals in that spell, and their 3-0 home defeat to Boreham Wood on Saturday came against a side who had previously averaged just 0.79 in the goals-per-game category this campaign.
With crunch encouters against FC Halifax Town, Welling and Torquay to come in March, this fixture probably isn’t very high on manager Dino Maamria’s list of priorities, and I expect Dover to win fairly comfortably in front of their own fans.
The 4/6 Coral are offering about a home win seems more than reasonable to me, but there’s a value angle to consider here.
Dover have scored 15 goals in their last five home games, and have notched in both halves in six of their last nine. That percentage put into betting terms would suggest odds of 1/2 about it happening again on Tuesday, which makes the 6/4 William Hill are offering look very tasty indeed, especially against this beleaguered Southport outfit.
Best Bets
Dover v Southport – Dover to win (4/6 Coral)
Dover v Southport – Dover to score in both halves (6/4 William Hill)
