NON-LEAGUE expert Paul Maddison (@LouthBigDog) shares his favourite fancies from the weekend’s National League action.
Ebbsfleet v Halifax | Saturday 30th September 2017, 15:00
First up, I’m taking on the league’s draw specialists, Ebbsfleet, who host in-form Halifax. Ebbsfleet have won just two of their 12 games, admittedly they’ve only lost once, whilst sharing the spoils on an incredible nine times.
Visitors Halifax are in really good form at the moment as they sit fourth having won six of their last eight and only losing twice since their opening day defeat to Aldershot.
With these stats in mind, I fancy Halifax +0.5 on the Asian Handicap at 7/8 (BetVictor). This bet would have landed in nine of 12 Halifax games and in 10 of Ebbsfleet’s 12 outings.
Woking v Hartlepool | Saturday 30th September 2017, 15:00
Woking are usually very strong at home – they top the ‘home table’ having won five of their last six games, so I was a bit surprised to see theM chalked up as underdogs here.
Hartlepool are seen as one of the bigger clubs in the league after their recent relegation to the National League but they’ve gotten off to a really bad start and are now playing catch up.
The Monkey Hangers have turned the corner a bit, winning four of their last six. They are the only four victories they have managed all season, mind.
With Hartlepool’s recent form being taken into account, I’m going to play slightly safe and back Woking to carry on their good home form in the Draw No Bet market at 53/50 (Marathon).
Wrexham v Sutton | Saturday 30th September 2017, 15:00
Another team who started the season slowly were Wrexham. They’ve now picked up form and sit fifth, just one point behind their visitors Sutton, who top the table.
Wrexham haven’t lost in their last seven, although they have drawn three of those. The main reason for their recent success is how solid they have been in defence. They’ve conceded just one goal in their last seven outings.
Sutton undeniably have had a great start to the season – I don’t think anyone would have predicted them to be top of the league after 12 games. Their form has dropped off a little of late though and I don’t expect them to stay top of the tree for much longer.
After Sutton’s great start, the visitors have won just three of their last seven so I’ll play it safe by backing the home side again in the Draw No Bet market at 107/100 with Marathon.
