The Voice of Value is back and this time it’s personal! After a successful Cheltenham Festival he’s attacking the Grand National at Aintree and aiming to continue his run of finding value in the big races.
Here he previews each potential runner ahead of the declarations on Thursday, in a horse-by-horse guide that gives his opinion on their chances over the fences in the greatest horse race in the world.

Verdict
In summary then I think it is fair to say that there are plenty who are in with a chance although I hope the guide has helped you narrow things down a bit. As I’ve said before, it’s tricky to pick just one runner with any certainty – given the madness of the race he could easily be brought down at the first fence through no fault of his own.
On balance I think SOLL and ROCKY CREEK are both well handicapped and have very strong claims. BALTHAZAR KING and ALVARADO should be there or thereabouts again this year with their previous course and distance experience giving them an edge. RAZ DE MAREE would be a great each way shout at a huge price if the ground ends up being soft and AL CO completes the short list largely due to his great win at Ayr last year.
Final Shortlist
- Soll
- Rocky Creek
- Balthazar King (good ground or good to soft at worst)
- Alvarado
- Raz De Maree (soft ground)
- Al Co
Notable Mentions
- Saint Are
- Pineau De Re
- The Druids Nephew
