Our man Daniel McCulloch (@danmcc84) believes England look nailed on in Sunday night’s UEFA World Cup qualifying coupon.
Lithuania vs England | Sunday 8th October 2017, 17:00 | Sky Sports
Gareth Southgate’s England side may have secured their place in Russia next summer with a game to spare but punters are hardly queuing round the block to back them to have any kind of success once they get there.
England’s performances during this campaign have left a lot to be desired and even against weak competition they have seemed unnecessarily cautious.
Still, it is worth remembering that they have only conceded three goals in their nine games (and two of them were sublime free-kicks) and while their goalscoring exploits may not have matched genuine European heavyweights, their group is more competitive than many.
Tomorrow they play an honest but limited Lithuania side and I believe they will end Group F on a high. They have faced this opposition three times in the last three years and the results have read; 4-0, 3-0 and 2-0. With this in mind, there are two bets that take my fancy. The first is England to win to nil.
That is available at 11/10 with BetVictor. Incredibly, 14 of their last 19 qualifying results have met this criterion, including three games against this opponent. Lithuania started this campaign reasonably well with credible draws against Slovenia and Scotland but recent results have been poor. A 3-0 home defeat to Scotland has been followed by a 4-0 loss to Slovenia and a 1-1 draw with Malta.
There is no doubt their players will be looking forward to this game but they simply do not have the quality to hurt England.
I also like the look of England to win by more than one goal. That is available at Evens with Sporting Bet. I would not be surprised if England won two, three of four nil but rather than searching the correct score market for some value, I would rather just have all three score lines on my side.
