LA LIGA continues its return on Monday night as Villarreal and Sevilla lock horns. Jack Wright (@bet_shop_boys ) is on-hand to preview the match-up .
Villarreal v Sevilla | Monday 21st June 2020, 18:30 | La Liga TV
Two sides unbeaten after the La Liga restart do battle on Monday evening as sixth-placed Villarreal welcome third0placed Sevilla to the Estadio de la Cerámica with a 6:30pm kick off.
The home side have recorded three successive 1-0 victories as they continue a strong challenge for a Champions League place, but the visit of Julen Lopetegui’s men represent their toughest test so far. The visitors have followed a derby day 2-0 win over Betis with two draws, away at Levante and at home to league leaders Barcelona, which has stretched their unbeaten league run to seven.
Although the stats of recent games suggest there may be a lack of goals in this one that doesn’t necessarily mean there won’t be a shortage of attempts. In their last home game versus Mallorca, the Yellow Submarine allowed 15 shots from their visitors, a slight increase on their average of 12.90 across the campaign thus far.
In the corresponding fixture last season, despite a hugely impressive 3-0 victory, Villarreal goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo was faced with a massive 21 attempts at his goal but then incredibly that number was surpassed earlier this season as Villa’ came away with a 2-1 victory from their visit to the Roman Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium despite the home side’s 24 efforts at goal.
Two players I am going to focus on in this game are Sevilla’s attacking duo of Lucas Ocampos and Munir El Haddadi.
Argentinian Ocampos has caught the eye this season, with 11 goals in his 25 La Liga appearances in his first season with the club following his move from Marseille and has fired in three or more attempts at goal in two of the last three games, scoring once. Betfair offer 6/5 for Ocampos to have three or more shots again on Monday night forLos Nervionenses.
Fellow forward El Haddadi averages 2.50 shots in La Liga but seems to like facing Monday’s opponents. He was his side’s scorer in the aforementioned defeat earlier this season and managed to fire off nine shots in total that day. Although he didn’t find the net in this fixture last season, he still managed six attempts. Betfair again offer 6/5 for the Spaniard to get three or more shots away.
With both players being offered at odds-against and with no strong preference for either I am happy to back the pair in singles.
