Tottenham vs West Ham Betting Preview: Spurs to get back on track

TOTTENHAM welcome West Ham on Tuesday night for a London derby. Tom Love (@TomLove_18) shares his thoughts on the Premier League encounter.

Jose Mourinho looked delighted after his side threw away a one-goal lead on Friday night against his old club Manchester United. It was a strange tone to use considering the manner of the performance; once his side had taken the lead they retreated with everyone behind the ball.

I’ve been used to seeing this when watching Bradford City over the years and the inevitability of conceding is hugely frustrating. Think of Fergie’s United team and how they’d try capitalise straight after they’d scored the opener to try get the game out of sight. That’s what winning teams do.

Mourinho came out with the excuses we’re all expecting. He can blame fitness all he likes, he’s got to take some responsibility for that. Make the right changes at the right time and they have a far greater chance of taking all three points.

That being said, they have had an extra day rest compared to Tuesday night’s opponents, West Ham, who suffered a 2-0 defeat to Wolves. I fear for the Hammers who look like they could sleepwalk into a dangerous situation.

It’s hard to have faith in the Hammers this season, their underlying process is poor, especially at the back. David Moyes has done little to change things on the face of it and it was a very obvious move to bring him back to the club. They look a team that’s disjointed and lacks cohesion, that’s a great worry especially in the predicament they find themselves in at this stage of the season.

For all the negativity around Spurs, few teams come away from White Hart Lane with three points and they’ll have greater impetus here you’d imagine, against a weaker opponent. I’m not expecting an enthralling, end-to end game but I do think Spurs will take the win.

If you exclude the top-six, Spurs have a W7-D2-L1 record at home and these are the games they tend to win. Options are plentiful now as well and I think they’ll see off this average West Ham side. The hosts are rightful odds-on favourites at 4/6 but I’d want to eek a bit more out of that so I’ll head to the BetBuilder market and chuck in Spurs to collect a card which boosts it to even-money.

Spurs are the second-dirtiest team in the league with 63 yellows and three reds. West Ham do have a counter-attacking threat with the likes of Pablo Fornals and Felipe Anderson. Mourinho will be happy for his side to take the odd tactical yellow if they have to.
