A place in the Capital One Cup semi-finals await the winner of this fixture on Wednesday. Who does Chris Graham (@chrisgraham79) see going through?
Tottenham v Newcastle | Wednesday 19:45
Tottenham and Newcastle sit side by side in the Premier League table in 7th and 8th place respectively and both have a big opportunity to reach the Capital One Cup semi-finals here.
Spurs have been a mixed bag under Mauricio Pochettino. Over their 16 league games this season they’ve won seven of them and lost six. They’ve beaten Southampton and Everton, yet lost to West Brom and Stoke. Not an easy side to call.
Newcastle have had a season of two halves. No wins in their opening seven games has been followed by six wins in their next nine league games. At the weekend they suffered their worst result for a few weeks when losing 4-1 to Arsenal.
This is a tough game to call. My stakes will be extremely low. Looking at the Match Prices my gut feel was that Tottenham are too short at best price 17/20 with BetVictor. Should they really be odds-on up against a side in the Form Table Top 6? Not for me. They’ve fluffed their lines when odds on at home on four occasions this season (West Brom, Stoke, Crystal Palace and, err, Newcastle).
Yeah let’s not forget Newcastle beat Spurs 2-1 at White Hart Lane earlier in the season. 7/2 (BetVictor) anyone? Well, yes actually. I think there are a few reasons to back Newcastle and when they’re offering those odds I’ll have to get involved.
Alan Pardew will be aware it’s 45 years since the Magpies won a Cup. He’ll also be conscious that if he ends that drought he’ll be woven into Newcastle folklore. Hey, stop laughing at the back.
