Tottenham v Chelsea | Sunday 12:00 | Sky Sports 1
Tottenham were 11/2 to win this fixture last season. On Sunday they’re 13/8 to beat Chelsea at home. That’s quite a difference in price isn’t it?
That game was of course pivotal to last season. Tottenham’s 5-3 win set alarm bells off at Chelsea and they played far more conservatively in the second half of the season as they cruised to the title. Might this also be a turning point on Sunday for the club?
You’d have to say the Chelsea garden looks a wee bit rosier at this point in time then it did a few weeks ago. The side have now won three of their last four matches and have conceded just two goals in November. It’s definitely something for the beleaguered club to cling to.
Even the only defeat in this spell (the 1-0 loss at Stoke) had quite a few positive points and we’ll get a real feel for whether the boat has been turned around on Sunday.
Last season’s win for Tottenham was so striking as I’d always had the impression they had a bit of an inferiority complex with Chelsea. Results back this up.
That New Years Day victory was Spurs’ first win over Chelsea in five years and 11 games. Normal order was restored during their next meeting though when Chelsea won 2-0 in the Capital One Cup Final. Are Spurs the real deal this season? This match should give us a serious pointer.
With the absence of the influential Dele Alli, the slight recovery from Chelsea and the Blues dominance of this fixture I’m inclined to support the away side in some way here.
At 3/4 with Bet Victor they can be backed at +0.25 on the Asian Handicap and I think that’s decent. Half of my stake goes on them Draw No Bet (+0) with the other half on them simply needing to avoid defeat (+0.5). That’s the play for me. Maybe Spurs will prove they’re the real deal though and prove me wrong.
