Serie A: Genoa can bounce back from last Sunday’s humiliation

OUR man in Italy, Marco Di Cosmo (@scioltz) looks to continue his hot streak in Serie A with his best Sunday selections.

Chievo v Pescara | Sunday 14:00

Pescara were absolutely brilliant last week and the arrival of Zdenek Zeman in charge had its effect. A team that could not win a single match in the entire season thrashed Genoa 5-0 away, maybe giving their supporters some hope.

This time they will travel to Chievo, not an easy ground. The hosts are safe and solid as predicted, and usually they do not play the second part of the season with the same intensity as the first.

Usually, their home games are not full of goals, as stats also suggest, but given the enthusiasm and the new mentality of Pescara, I will stick again with goals on a Over 2.5 basis.

Genoa v Bologna | Sunday 14:00

Ivan Juric has been sacked as Genoa head coach after that 5-0 loss, with the grifoni unable to win since December, while losing their last three games.

This trend feels really unpredictable given the great start of their season where their dominance had reached a pick against Juventus, when they thrashed the bianconeri away scoring three goals in the first 30 minutes of the game.

Something inexplicable happened to the team since then and much of this collapse is due to to the heavy transfer market window in January, where Genoa changed a lot of key players. The result has been the sacking of their manager, and sometimes this could work as a new boost for players.

For this reason I might back the home side to beat Bologna, who are on a difficult period and still have to fight with injuries and absences.

Lazio v Udinese | Sunday 14:00

Lazio did not win their last two games at the Olimpico where their previous form was among the top teams. In their last game against Milan they looked valid candidates for a Europa League spot and they missed so many chances that the game could have easily turned in their favour.

Hosting Udinese could be a very comfortable way to regain home success, with the hosts really not a menace when travelling. They are engaged in a much anonymous Serie A season, settling for a safe place above the relegation zone.

Lazio will have their powerforce back with both Felipe Anderson, Ciro Immmobile and Keita Balde back in the lineup. I think this will be enough to kill off Udinese and I’ll add a small goal line to boost the price for a home win.

Sassuolo v AC Milan | Sunday 14:00 | BT Sport 2

We should see fun when Milan and Sassuolo clash, with the latter never refusing a goal a game even against Serie A giants. Two of the most memorable games between these two teams finished 4-3 for Sassuolo a couple of years ago, with the hosts able to score four in less than 30 minutes, while the same result went for Milan in October, when the rossoneri came back from a 3-1 deficit in the last 20 minutes.

I expect something similar to happen here, as the rossoneri have a lot of defensive issues with their best defender Alessio Romagnoli still ruled out for this match. So, despite predicting a winner from here, I’ll be focusing on goals backing both sides to find the net at least once.
