OUR man in Italy, Marco Di Cosmo (@scioltz) pens his final Serie A column of the season. Will he have another brilliant week?
The last week of Serie A action should provide plenty of goals. Unfortunately, the odds on this have really shortened as the league is now known as among the highest scoring divisions in Europe.
Stats say that Serie A is averaging more than three goals per game in this season. Also, the Italian league has changed a lot from the days of catenaccio and it currently has a higher ratio of goals scored than in the Premier League, Spanish Liga and Bundesliga. This is why I have provided some simple goals based tips to finish this Serie A season.
Cagliari v AC Milan | Sunday 14:00 | BT Sport 2
Cagliari have been consistent in terms of goals scored, especially at home and I expect them to salute their supporters with an exciting performance.
Also Milan have nothing to defend and they will look to show off the offensive abilities of their stars. I’ll back more than three goals scored in what’s essentially a friendly match in Sardinia.
Roma v Genoa | Sunday 17:00 | BT Sport Europe
Roma v Genoa truly is the most important match of the day, and probably it will be remembered for years to come since it will be the last dance of the roman legend Francesco Totti.
Having guaranteed their safety last week, Genoa should only play to assist the last game of one of the best player the Italian football has ever seen.
I expect something of a celebration here, so I expect goals and one of them, the last one, scored by Francesco as his farewell to football.
Sampdoria v Napoli | Sunday 17:00
This should be a cracker between the student (Gianpaolo) and the maestro (Sarri) as the two head coaches.
Napoli will look for the winner here, as they have some hopes for a UCL spot, but it will be very difficult to attain as Roma are unlikely to drop points at home, so their victory should be useless if not for another show time performance from Napoli’s players.
Their natural ability to create goals makes me have little worries about both teams finding the net here with the goal line of Over 2.5 easily overcome.
Fiorentina v Pescara | Sunday 19:45
Onto Firenze where another friendly match will be played among Fiorentina and Pescara. I see no reason why this should not be a goalfest, with defending never a priority for both managers and neither a need for any of them here. Back the line at Over 3.5 as I expect Fiorentina to net at least three times.
Inter v Udinese | Sunday 19:45
In Milan, I like to back Inter’s chances against Udinese, who usually travel badly, especially when they have no objectives. It is true that the neroazzurri also have nothing to play for but it seems their season is going better after they’ve reached the minimum level of dignity after their awful defeat against Sassuolo. Back the neroazzurri to win and Over 2.5 goals scored in the game.
Torino v Sassuolo | Sunday 19:45
Last stop in Turin where the home side have always guaranteed goals in almost all of their matches. The granata have a remarkable record of 66 goals scored (6th in Serie A), and moreover 63 conceded (4th in Serie A), with every of their game an exciting display for goal-lovers.
They host Sassuolo who never refuse a goal battle and I am happy to conclude this trip with an Over 3.5 goals bets to end this Serie A season.
