A lovely 7/5 winner last week for Willie Duncan (@Willie_Duncan) will he come up with the goods again this weekend?
Peterhead v Dunfermline | Saturday 15:00
If you haven’t been backing Dunfermline Athletic this season, what exactly have you been doing?
You can’t say that you weren’t warned – I said that the Pars to win League One was my very best bet from Scotland for the whole season and then I tipped them up to dump their Fife rivals Cowdenbeath out of the League Cup – they duly obliged by winning 5-1.
As it turns out, though, that was just the beginning for Allan Johnston’s all-conquering side as they smashed six past Brechin City a week later, before hitting Cowdenbeath for seven at East End Park last weekend.
In midweek, they thumped Forfar Athletic at Station Park, cruising to a comfortable 3-0 win in the Petrofac Training Cup – a match that they set up by winning 4-1 against Arbroath in their very first outing of the season. That’s an astonishing 25 goals for Dunfermline Athletic in just five competitive fixtures this season!
This weekend, they make the long journey north to take on Peterhead. Can Jim McInally’s men stop the Pars in their tracks?
Well, maybe, actually. You see, Peterhead are no mugs themselves – a point that they proved in emphatic style when they recorded a sensational 5-3 victory over Championship side Falkirk in the Petrofac Training Cup in midweek, with star striker Rory McAllister banging in all five goals for the boys from Balmoor – McAllister has also notched three league goals in two league games this season.
Add to that a 4-0 win against Stranraer last weekend, a 2-2 draw against Stenhousemuir on the opening day of the League One season, a 3-0 League Cup loss to Rangers at Ibrox and a 3-0 win away against Brechin City in the first round of the Petrofac Training Cup and what do you get? Goals galore!
Saturday’s clash against the Pars looks set to be the kind of game that brought about the mythical “East Fife 4, Forfar 5” match that people who know nothing about Scottish football even seem to know about.
Will there be nine goals scored when these two sides lock horns this weekend? Probably not – but, fortunately for my punt, there doesn’t have to be. Four goals will do for me on Saturday because I cannot resist diving in at a juicy 13/10 for Over 3.5 Goals to be scored when Peterhead meet Dunfermline Athletic at Balmoor on Saturday.
The Pars led 4-0 by half-time in both of their League One fixtures already this season and, with both teams scoring goals for fun, this is an irresistible punt at a generous price. For those reasons, Over 3.5 Goals between Peterhead and Dunfermline Athletic is my best bet from Scotland this weekend.
