PRO PUNTER Dino Vita (@VitaDino) highlights his favourite bet from the first weekend of the Scottish football season.
Falkirk v Hibs | Saturday 15.00
It seems like only yesterday that I was celebrating Hibs’ famous Scottish Cup victory over Rangers at Hampden Park but it’s back to reality and the Hibees really need to get out this division and back to where they belong.
Hibs are my first selection of the new season; they travel to Championship rivals Falkirk on Saturday hoping to kick start the new campaign with a victory.
New manager Neil Lennon has inherited most of last season’s cup-winning squad but has added experienced forward Grant Holt to the squad. With Paul Hanlon and James Cummings signing new deals, it’s been an added bonus.
Hibs haven’t been involved in the League Cup section because of their European involvement and although it only lasted one tie, they did themselves proud, especially in the second leg which they won 1-0 in Brondby before losing on penalties.
The fact Brondby beat Hertha Berlin last night to qualify for the next round shows the standard of this Hibs side and they won’t face a side of Brondby’s standard in the Championship.
Falkirk had a great season last year, pipping Hibs to second in the league before knocking them out in the play-off semis and eventually losing to Kilmarnock in the final.
Falkirk will need to replicate that form of last season to keep up with this Hibs side but that will be no mean feat considering they’ve lost two of their best players over the summer in Will Vaulks and Blair Alston.
There wasn’t much between the sides last season but I think this Hibs side will have the edge this time around and will start the season as they mean to go on, by taking all three points at 10/11 with Paddy Power.
