IT’S the final day of the Championship in Scotland and Willie Duncan (@Willie_Duncan) has a bet to share.
Livingston v Queen Of The South | Saturday 12:15
Saturday promises to be an outstanding day for me. I’ll be at Tynecastle to see Hearts collect their first piece of silverware since the 5-1 demolition of Hibernian in the 2012 Scottish Cup final.
While my wallet and liver won’t take as much of a pounding as it did on Cup final weekend in 2012, I’m sure that I may allow myself a wee half shandy or two to toast a brilliant season for the Jam Tarts.
How do I plan to finance my title celebrations this weekend? By backing Livingston to beat Queen of the South on Saturday afternoon, of course.
Mark Burchill’s men looked down and out in the battle to beat the drop after a 2-1 home defeat to Dumbarton back in March but since then, the Lions have come roaring back. They have lost just one of their last seven matches and recorded a thumping 4-0 win over Raith Rovers in Kirkcaldy last weekend.
Queens have been brilliant this season and have also delivered a strong finish to the season, picking up 13 points from their last five matches. However, with a place in the promotion play-offs already assured and a mammoth match against either Rangers or Hibs coming up next week, who could blame James Fowler if he allowed a few of his key protagonists to put their feet up this weekend?
Queens have got nothing to play for and surely will not field their strongest possible XI on Saturday, while for Burchill’s men, the distinct threat of automatic relegation to League One has not gone away. Therefore, I fully expect the Livingston Lions to taste success against a Queen of the South side that, frankly, has got bigger fish to fry.
Livingston are super value to win on home turf and I’ll be backing Burchill’s boys to bag all three points on Saturday at 6/4 as my best bet from Scotland this weekend.
