WILLIE Duncan (@Willie_Duncan) returned to form last week with a brilliant shout on Albion Rovers. This week he focuses on the top-flight.
Partick Thistle v Motherwell | Saturday 15:00
I haven’t had a lot of sleep this week. I listened to Motherwell’s 5-0 demolition of St Mirren on Tuesday night and it left me feeling uneasy.
Since then, I’ve been lying awake at night wondering if I can possibly dismiss all of my pre-conceptions about the Steelmen and put my faith in them this weekend – and I’ve finally concluded that I can.
Why? Well, the price has certainly been a motivating factor; it’s just wrong.
There isn’t much to separate many of the sides in the Scottish top flight and I’m salivating at the prospect of being able to back Motherwell at 3/1 against Partick Thistle this weekend.
The Jags haven’t done anything wrong; it’s been the usual mix of the good, the bad and the ugly from Alan Archibald’s men in recent weeks…but 3/1 for in-form Motherwell?! Too much to resist!
There’s no doubt that Gibraltar, San Marino or even the Dog and Duck could give St Mirren a game at the moment, but the style in which Motherwell slapped the Saints down on Tuesday night impressed me.
‘Well are partying like it’s 2003, with Scott McDonald and Stephen Pearson running the show and top scorer John Sutton – who had to settle for a place on the bench on Tuesday – grabbed two goals for himself after coming on; but 21-year-old striker Lee Erwin ensured that is wasn’t just the Dad’s Army cast taking the headlines, by scoring two himself.
Motherwell might not find a way past Partick Thistle in Glasgow on Saturday, but they are bang in form and I can’t ignore them at 3/1 so I’m going for ‘Well as my best bet from Scotland this weekend.
