My selection this weekend comes from the Scottish Championship as title-chasing St Mirren host Dunfermline.
St Mirren were many people’s fancy for promotion in the summer and the Buddies haven’t disappointed. Sitting second, Saints are just one point behind Dundee Utd, which is ideal coming into the busy Christmas period.
The Buddies boast the best home record in the division, winning six of their eight league games on home soil thus far. Dunfermline’s season promised plenty back in September when they beat Saturday’s hosts 3-0 at East End Park, a result that propelled the Pars to second at the time.
However, fast forward three months and it’s all gone a bit Pete Tong for the Pars as the visitors have managed only won one Championship triumph in nine since that success in September.
Dunfermline have dropped outside the top-four and are now 10 points adrift of the top of the table. And I think St Mirren (99/100 Marathon) have the ability to pile more misery on Allan Johnstone’s guests here and continue their push for promotion.
