Scottish Football: Exhausted Albion need to be taken on says Willie Duncan

AFTER Rangers delivered for him last week, Willie Duncan (@Willie_Duncan) returns with another Scottish NAP this League One pick.

Albion Rovers v Livingston | Saturday 15:00

You’ll be reading a lot about Albion Rovers in the next few weeks; the club from Coatbridge pulled off a Scottish Cup shock on Tuesday night, defeating Championship side Queen of the South to set up a fourth round clash against Celtic in January.

Party poopers

Darren Young’s side deserve plenty of praise for downing the Doonhamers, but I think that their joy might prove to be short-lived, with League One leaders, Livingston, primed to be party poopers this weekend.

The Lions haven’t had things all their own way in this division and memories of a 2-1 defeat against Albion at the Tony Macaroni Arena in October will surely fuel home hopes this weekend.

David Hopkin’s side, however, were hugely impressive as they moved to the top of the table with a hard-fought 2-1 win away from the home against Airdrie last weekend – and I’m backing the Lions to maintain momentum against Rovers.

Liam Buchanan

Livingston have a young, largely inexperienced squad but leading the line is Liam Buchanan; the 31-year-old striker is one of the oldest heads in the squad – and Livingston’s most senior starter – but, much more importantly, the former Alloa Athletic forward is a man who is bang in form.

Buchanan has scored 11 league goals so far this season – as many as he managed in the whole of last season – and, on top of that, he has notched eight goals in his last eight appearances for the Lions.

Empty tank

Albion will be tremendously excited after setting up a Cup clash against the Scottish champions, but I can’t help but wonder what Young’s team will have left in the tank after their heroics on Tuesday night against Queens.

Livingston have won four consecutive fixtures on their travels in all competitions, scoring eight goals and conceding just two; Hopkin’s men, when they are at their best, are the top team in this division for my money and the Lions should prove to be too strong for the Wee Rovers this weekend.

For that reason, Bet365’s 11/10 quote for the Livingston Lions to have cause to roar with delight is my best bet from Scotland this weekend.
