I’ve been avoiding putting Hearts up in a selection for the best part of this season, but I cannot resist ahead of the Jam Tarts’ jaunt to Pittodrie on Saturday afternoon.
A run of rotten results had meant that there was an air of doom and gloom hanging over Tynecastle ahead of last weekend’s clash against Hamilton.
Ian Cathro’s charges, though, stepped up to the plate to pick up a thoroughly deserved – and vital – 4-0 victory in Gorgie.
Aberdeen, too, were in the winner’s circle last weekend, albeit in different circumstances, for the Dons picked up all three points by virtue of Niall McGinn’s last-gasp goal against Motherwell at Pittodrie.
Tight tussle anticipated
That was a third successive 1-0 win for Aberdeen on home soil in all competitions and there is every chance that this tussle will prove to be a tight one.
Just one of the last six meetings between these two teams has seen more than a single goal scored, while there have been fewer than three goals scored in all but one of the last 18 matches between the two teams at Pittodrie.
There have been just two goals in the last three fixtures between the teams at Pittodrie and both league meetings between the sides so far this season have been drab affairs.
The betting angle
Hearts haven’t had a great time on their travels this season; indeed, the Edinburgh side have won just three away matches in the Premiership this term – twice at Motherwell and once at Partick – and Cathro’s side will certainly face a stiff test in the Granite City.
Aberdeen to win at 7/10 though, doesn’t tempt me at all (hands up if you’re surprised at that revelation) and better value could lie in Marathon’s 97/100 quote for fewer than three goals to be scored.
