WILLIE DUNCAN (@Willie_Duncan) hits the top-flight in a bid for another winning Scottish NAP this weekend.
Partick Thistle v Rangers | Saturday 12:15 | Sky Sports
I’ve been railing against Rangers for most of the season, but the time has come to side with Mark Warburton’s men.
The ‘Gers travel across Glasgow to take on Partick Thistle in the lunchtime kick-off from Scotland on Saturday afternoon and the 17/20 (William Hill) quotes on offer for an away win look to offer outstanding value.
Rangers were struggling in September – the 5-1 thrashing that they suffered against Celtic was the second of four matches without a win in the Premiership and Warburton’s men were wobbling.
Rangers recovery
The first day of October, however, brought renewed hope and Rangers claimed a comfortable 2-0 win against Partick Thistle at Ibrox; since then, Rangers have been beaten just once in seven matches – again, against Celtic in the League Cup semi-finals at Hampden Park.
The joy of winning four league matches – all without conceding – has been slightly punctured by disappointing draws against St Johnstone and Ross County respectively and there is still some concern about Rangers’ prowess in the final third, for Warburton’s team have scored more than one goal in just one of their last six games.
Thistle’s home horror show
Partick Thistle are 11th in the Premiership but little attention should be paid to their league position at this stage, given how ridiculously tight it is in the bottom half of the Scottish top-flight, but Partick’s poor record at Firhill cannot be overlooked.
One win in seven home matches in the top-flight tells a story; that victory came more than three months ago – back on the opening day of the campaign – and there has been precious little for Jags fans to shout about in Maryhill since.
Away wins against St Johnstone and Dundee have boosted morale for Alan Archibald’s men, but I think it’ll be another home horror show for the Jags this weekend.
Opportunity knocks for ‘Gers
Celtic and Aberdeen meet in the Scottish League Cup final on Sunday and, so, Rangers have the chance to move into second place in the Premiership and narrow the gap on their rivals – they surely won’t pass that up.
Therefore, it’s the 17/20 (William Hill) quote from William Hill for Rangers to win at Firhill that is my best bet from Scotland this weekend.
