BEN LEVENE (@BenLevene96) shares his betting views on Tuesday night’s World Cup qualifying play-off second leg contest between Republic of Ireland and Denmark.
Republic of Ireland v Denmark | Tuesday 14th November 2017, 19:45 | Sky Sports
After a tense 0-0 draw in Denmark, the Danes travel to Ireland this Tuesday. As expected, Martin O’Neil’s side proved their defensive soundness and were able to come away unscathed despite conceding over 70% of the ball.
Ireland will be delighted to have returned with the tie alive. They kept things tight and will look to do the same in Dublin, with the hope of nicking a goal over the next 90 minutes. They will also be happy to have come away without any suspensions given 10 players were a booking away.
A 0-0 draw was probably best possible negative result for Denmark. They arrive in Ireland and can start from fresh. Age Hareide’s side managed to avoid conceding an away goal.
The Danes have had no trouble on the road in recent times; they’ve won each of their last three away matches and have been leading at half-time on each occasion.
The betting angles
All of Ireland’s five home qualifiers saw Under 2.5 Goals, with three of five also featuring Under 1.5. As we pointed out before opposing goals on Saturday, Denmark’s away fixtures against the defensively solid Romania and Montenegro were 0-0 and 0-1 respectively.
Although a tad short, it’s difficult to ignore Under 1.5 Goals at 5/4 (Paddy Power). Neither side will want to lose at such a late stage and it could take a moment of brilliance to separate the two.
Denmark have the individuals more capable of producing those moments but I feel the Ireland collective is heavily underestimated in the betting. They are 7/5 to qualify with Boylesports, they have home advantage and went off a similar price before Saturday, when they were able to achieved a desired result.
Repeatedly throughout his reign, O’Neil’s team have got over the line and in a game where I can’t separate the two sides, I think Ireland are worth chancing to progress.
