AFTER giving us a 9/5 in the Anfield meeting a fortnight ago, we got Mark O’Haire (@MarkOHaire) to hunt down the best bets for Real Madrid’s match with Liverpool on Tuesday night.
Real Madrid v Liverpool | Tuesday 19.45 | ITV 1
It’s 11 successive wins for Real Madrid now since their derby defeat to Atletico back in August. Carlo Ancelotti’s side are now top of La Liga and keen to wrap up qualification from their Champions League group as early as possible.
Los Blancos have won nine Champions League home games on the spin – their longest run since 1998 and that record extends to 16 wins from 18 continental clashes at the Bernabéu. Oh, and they’ve only failed to win one of their last 14 group-stage games in front of their home fans.
Since being humbled at Anfield, Liverpool have failed to net against Hull and Newcastle in Premier League action and toiled against Swansea in a Capital One Cup tie. The Reds have kept just two clean sheets in 15 outings this season and been beaten in four of their six on the road in 2014/15. This could get ugly.
With Real just 1/4 (Ladbrokes) to come out on top we have to look elsewhere. Los Blancos have smashed 46 goals in their 11-match wining streak, firing in three or more goals in nine of those 11 matches. And the hosts have also hit four or more goals in seven of their previous 11 home group-stage games in the Champions League.
Take that Bernabéu group-stage record further and we can see the capital club have managed to win by a margin or three or more goals in eight of their last 11. Bet365 are offering Real Madrid -2 in the Asian Handicap market at 21/20 and we’ll have a stab at that – here we’ll get our stake back should the hosts only win by two goals but receive a full payout should Real run riot by three goals or more.
It’s worth noting that Brendan Rodgers has brought Daniel Sturridge to Spain and with Ancelotti’s charges conceding in seven of their last eight group-stage home games, the 5/4 from Ladbrokes might appeal on Real Madrid + Both Teams To Score banking.
But we’re going to have a small play on Cristiano Ronaldo doing the business again with the first goal of the game at 5/2 (Paddy Power). The winker is chasing Raul’s 71-goal Champions League record and netting on Tuesday night would equal the Los Blancos legend.
Ronaldo has scored 55 goals in 54 Champions League appearances for the defending champions, has netted in 20 of his last 21 La Liga and Champions League appearances and has 23 goals to his name from 16 appearances in 2014/15 for club and country. Crucially, he’s broken the deadlock in five of his last six outings so let’s hope he extends that stunning record when Liverpool arrive.
