PSG welcome Real Madrid this Tuesday, and the home side have it all to do after a 3-1 defeat in the reverse fixture.
Weakened PSG
When analysing this fixture, it makes sense to begin with the absence of Neymar. The PSG talisman has been directly involved in 35% (9/26) of their Champions League goals this season, and 37% of their goals in Ligue 1 (32/86).
Kylian Mbappe and Marquinhos are both doubts, and their potential absence would be a further blow to Unai Emery.
The Paris based side have won all 19 of their home games in all competitions this season, but they may not have things so easy this Tuesday.
Ruthless Real
After a shaky start to the season, Real Madrid look to have turned a corner, winning six of their last seven.
PSG’s best hope of defeating the holders would be to sit deep and break quickly, as was the case in their 4-0 win over Barcelona last season. However, given the nature of the tie, the onus is on them to force the issue.
This could well play into the hands of Zinedine Zidane’s side, who have the tools to punish Unai Emery’s team should they overcommit.
Madrid have a phenomenal record in this competition, going the all the way in three of the last four years.
I’m drawn back to a tie versus Bayern Munich a few years back. In the 2013/14 season they took a lead to the Allianz, where they blitzed Bayern 4-0 on the counter.
They were able to do similar last season against Napoli too, winning 3-1 in Naples after taking a 3-1 advantage into the game.
Keep Madrid onside
PSG seem a bit short in the betting at Evens. We can get Madrid at a massive 44/25 with the draw on side, and that’s a bit I’m keen to get involved with.
