Fresh from an 11/10 winner, Darts guru Ben Levene (@benlevene96) looks ahead to week eight of the Premier League of Darts.
Simon Whitlock v Peter Wright| Thursday 29th March 2018, 22:00 | Sky Sports
Having lost 7-1 in three consecutive Premier League matches, Peter Wright bounced back to life at the European Darts Open over the weekend. Snakebite lost out 8-7 to Michael Van Gerwen in the final.
Wright opportunistically took a 5-1 lead but MVG then found an extra gear, averaging 110 for the remainder of the match. Wright wired the bull for the match, but regardless will take positives from the weekend. He averaged over 98 in all five matches and looked like the Peter Wright of early 2017.
Should he bring that form to Belfast this Thursday, then the even-money (William Hill) for a win versus Simon Whitlock is of interest.
The Wizard begun the campaign with three wins but has since lost three and drawn one. Whitlock is a battler and is tough to break, so will definitely not rollover.
Across the six Players Championship events so far this season Peter Wright has averaged 95.96 compared to Whitlock’s 91.30. At the UK Open qualifiers Wright averaged 96.42 to Whitlock’s 93.54. Those numbers were posted when Wright was amidst a crisis, so should he reproduce the weekend’s form, Snakebite could prove too consistent.
Wright has won five of the last six meetings with Whitlock on TV, and is good value to achieve similar here.
