For those of you who fancied Sheffield United against Aston Villa on Wednesday night, Southampton are a similar price to the Blades were to beat a seemingly inferior opponent.
I didn’t back Chris Wilder’s men for the simple reason that I always struggle to see Sheffield United scoring a second goal so would always far rather back them to win by a goal to nil. That isn’t the case with Southampton this weekend even if they have only scored five more goals than the South Yorkshire side.
That being said, 5/4 on Southampton is not quite big enough for me to get involved with the ‘away’ side so I will instead back their chief goalscorer Danny Ings to find the net.
Ings has scored 15 times in 29 games for the Saints this term and will surely get chances against an open Norwich side. He is 7/2 to score the first goal in Friday nights encounter and given that you can get a third of the odds if he scores at any time.
You are essentially getting 7/6 on Ings anytime here as well as 7/2 on him to score at any point. I couldn’t back the Saints at close to Evens to win the game outright but their top marksman at such a price to score against a team who have already conceded 52 goals this term is too big for me to miss.
