TOM SELWYN (@Tom_Selwyn) returns to share his expert NFL views on Monday night’s contest between the Cowboys and Redkins.
Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Redskins | Tuesday 01.30 | Sky Sports 1
As I type this, the Jets have just beaten the Giants and that will leave the Cowboys only one game out in the woeful NFC East if they manage to beat the Redskins here. At 3-8 going, it’s amazing they are somehow still in with a shout at this poor division!
With QB Tony Romo now out for the season, they will have to rely on their OL and RB Darren McFadden. I’ll be backing him to go Over 71.5 rushing yards at 5/6 with Paddy Power.
McFadden’s rushing totals of late have been inconsistent to say the least. In the last six games, they read as follows; 152-64-117-32-129-11 – fairly up and down!
Given that Washington is Dallas’ opponent this week, I think we’re more likely to get one of the 100+ yard games from McFadden. Having Matt Cassel at QB should help us as well, as McFadden has been given 23.3 carries-per-game in the matches that Cassel has started.
Washington’s defence has not been great against the run this year and they currently sit tied for the fifth worst run defence with the Eagles, giving up 126.6 yards-per-game on the ground. Offensively the Cowboys are 10th in the league, putting up 115.3 rushing yards-per-game.
With RBs Joseph Randle and Christine Michael jettisoned by the Cowboys earlier in the season, McFadden is clearly the senior player in Dallas’ backfield. With a back-up QB in Cassel starting, they should rely on the run game and feed McFadden the ball.
Best Bets
Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Redskins – Darren McFadden Over 71.5 Rushing Yards 5/6 (PaddyPower)
