TOM Selwyn (@Tom_Selwyn) returns to share his expert view on the concluding Week 9 contest as the Bears travel to the Chargers late on Monday night.
Chicago Bears @ San Diego Chargers | Monday 01.30 | Sky Sports 1
Two pretty disappointing teams are facing off this Monday night, but have actually been in some pretty entertaining and high-scoring games due to their poor defences.
Both teams are missing some key players on offense, but it’s the Bears who are feeling it the most – they are without WRs Kevin White and Eddie Royal, as well as RB Matt Forte.
So it falls to WR Alshon Jeffrey and TE Martellus Bennett, as the only established players, to carry the load. I’ll be backing the former to have Over 6.5 receptions in this one at 10/11 (Ladbrokes)
Jeffrey is only recently back from injury himself, but has been playing very well since his return. He’s scored at TD in both games since his return and has also gone over 100 yards in each.
The key thing that stands out for me for the purpose of this bet is how many times he’s been targeted – 26 times across the two games, hauling in 18 of those – showing how much QB Jay Cutler loves to throw towards him.
With the additional injury of Eddie Royal since last week, Jeffrey should see even more targets against the Chargers and, even though he will be getting a lot of attention, he is just too good and has a favourable matchup against the 20th ranked San Diego pass defence.
The rest of the WRs on Chicago’s depth chart have a combined 36 receptions this season. Jeffrey has managed half that total in two games. I expect him to carry on with this form and have another big game on Monday night.
Best Bets
Chicago Bears @ San Diego Chargers – Alshon Jeffrey Over 6.5 Receptions (10/11 Ladbrokes)
