NFL Tip (Week 6) | 10th October 2014

OUR resident NFL boff Tom Selwyn (@Tom_Selwyn) was devouring copies amounts of Berlin beer last weekend but he’s back to cast his eye over the Thursday Night Football showdown…

Indianapolis Colts @ Houston Texans | 01.25 | Sky Sports 1

I’m going to take a punt on the Thursday night game this week; I’m loving the way Andrew Luck and the Colts have been playing of late and see them being too much for a Ryan Fitzpatrick-led Texans team. I’ll be taking them to win by more than a field goal. Colts -2.5 at 5/6 with Bet365.

Despite the teams sharing the same record, they come into this game with very different form. The Colts have won three straight games after losing their opening two and are averaging over 30 points a game, with QB Andrew Luck now leading the league in passing yards. It should be noted that these three straight wins have also been by more than seven points too.

Conversely, after starting with two wins, the Texans have now gone 1-2 and their QB play has not been good with more interceptions than TDs at this point. Quite simply, if RB Arian Foster doesn’t get going, Houston doesn’t seem to have a legitimate offense. On the other side, JJ Watt is an absolutely monster, but he can only do so much and needs some help. Even with his play, they rank 21st against the pass and 25th against the run.

In my view, to win this one, the Colts just need to be themselves and not over-complicate things. Let Andrew Luck do his thing and play solid defence.

I’ll post up my other selections later this week..
