NFL: Monday night’s ‘Return of Eli’ to underwhelm

Philadelphia Eagles - Carson Wentz

It’s the NFC East once more this week and for this edition it’s “MNF: the Return of Eli”. Manning will be making his return to the Giants starting line-up as rookie Daniel Jones is out with an injury.

I don’t think this will be a favourable match-up for Manning either; it’s been obvious for a while that he doesn’t have the arm strength to drive the ball downfield these days and even QBs that do have struggled on the East coast during winter (rain and medium winds forecast for Monday).

The opposing QB in Carson Wentz is proof of this; the Eagles scored only 19 points in consecutive home games against the Patriots and the Seahawks. Both of these games featured strong winds and Wentz toiled in the conditions.

This, combined with the fact that these offenses have not been good this year in general means that I’m going to be looking at the Under 46.5 Points play for this one at 17/20 (Sportingbet).

Even though Jones has provided the Giants fans with some excitement this year, he has turned the ball over far too much and, as a result, they sit 25th in the league for points scored with 19.2 a game. The Eagles, despite being 9 places better at 16th, are still only scoring 22.8 a game themselves.

I find New York’s defence very suspect, but I believe there’s more aspects pointing towards a low scoring game this Monday night.
