It looks like we’re actually going to get a Mexico game this year as the issues with the pitch that caused the game to be abandoned last year have been resolved.
Being in front of a neutral crowd really won’t phase the Chargers as their home games are generally full of opposition supporters anyway, but I think they’re going to be outmatched by a Kansas City offense that finally has its full quota of weapons back.
Because of this, I’ll be keeping it simple this week and backing the Chiefs -4.5 in the Estadio Azteca.
Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has been fantastic again this year, including a ridiculous recovery time for a dislocated kneecap that he suffered against the Broncos earlier season. With Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce and Sammy Watkins all playing together I don’t think anyone can stop Mahomes and the Chiefs offense, including a surprisingly good Chargers pass defence (fifth in the league for yards per-game).
Even if Mahomes and co are slowed down a little from their usual blistering pace, I can’t envision his counterpart, Philip Rivers, having a big day. He’s been well below par this season and, despite leading the league in passing yards, has thrown the third most INTs this year with 10 through 10 games, including three thrown against the Raiders in his last game.
Additionally, despite the yardage he’s only throw 14 TDs to go along with it. He’ll be facing the Chiefs eighth ranked pass defence this week.
This is a division game and as we saw last week with the Saints and Falcons, you can see some upsets, but I have faith in the high-flying Kansas City offense to get the job done.
