NFL 2018/19 Preview: Saints can rule the roost in NFC

NFL nut Kyle Brown (@Kyleianbrown) runs the rule over the NFC markets ahead of the 2018/19 season.

NFL 2018/19 Preview: NFC

New Orleans Saints would have won the 2017 Super Bowl had they not endured the walk off loss to the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship game last year.

For me, they were the best overall team in the league, and had enough weapons both offensively and defensively to beat Philadelphia in the final.

The question mark over the Saints in the past few years has always been on defence. It’s almost fitting that they lost the championship game last year because of a missed defensive tackle.

We can never know for sure whether my prediction would be right, but what I can bet on is the Saints going all the way this year.

Drew Brees has cemented himself as a Hall of Fame QB for a while now and can elevate every receiver around him. Alvin Kamara comes off a storming rookie campaign, working well with Mark Ingram who seemed to rediscover his college football form that earned him the Heisman Trophy.

Even though he was the #11 overall pick in the 2017 draft, defensive Rookie of the Year Marshon Lattimore surpassed all expectations the Saints could’ve possibly had for a pick that high. Marcus Williams, Von Bell and Cam Jordan all had seasons to boast about as well.

Few weaknesses in Saints’ armoury

There isn’t a weak spot on the New Orleans depth chart. Even if Brees went down injured in week 1 I’m more than confident that new-boy Teddy Bridgewater could guide this team to the playoffs and beyond.

The biggest issue for the Saints in the NFC conference is that they play in the NFC Conference. It is streaks ahead of the AFC in terms of talent.

Green Bay Packers, LA Rams, Atlanta Falcons, Minnesota Vikings and reigning champions Philadelphia Eagles, are just some of the teams that the Saints would have to beat in order to clinch the championship.

But that said, the Saints were agonizingly close to a Super Bowl appearance last year. And with Brees hitting 40 next year, it is probably now or never for the Hall of Famer to win his second ring.

Back them to win the conference at 11/1 (Bet365).
