DANIEL MCCULLOCH (@DMcCulloch1984) is back to share his betting thoughts on Super Sunday’s showdown between Newcastle and Man Utd.
Newcastle v Manchester United | Sunday 6th October 2019, 16:30 | Sky Sports
The most obvious bet here must be Under 2.5 Goals. How can you see either side scoring two goals? They’ve managed to do just that only once between them in 14 attempts so far in the Premier League this season. It’s a best price of 8/11 and it’s hard not to see it emerging victorious. However, much against my better judgement, I am going to side with the away team.
The tribulations of each side have been well documented this term. Manchester United’s squad looks so short of goals while Newcastle look like a team for whom a 1-0 victory is the maximum that they can really hope for. So far this term, they’ve managed a league-low 18 shots on target so it isn’t as if they are creating chances and failing to finish them.
Manchester United’s travails always ensure a lot of column inches and I cannot for a second make a case that they have somehow been unlucky. However, their opponents his Sunday are so short of attacking threat and are missing both Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden in the middle of the park.
I loathe to back Manchester United as a general rule these days but I really feel that one goal may be enough for them. It has been their manner of victory in six of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s 12 games as United boss and at 13/5 with Bet365 it gets my vote.
For the more conservative of you, the 23/20 Coral are offering on a United win and under 4.5 goals seems a logical play. I will probably also have a little bit on a 1-0 victory for the away side in a game that I expect to do little to justify its ‘Super Sunday’ billing.
