MLS expert Luke Beaumont (@_LukeBeaumont) smashed a full house in his last Major League Soccer selection. Here’s his thoughts on Sunday night’s Stateside action.
New York Red Bulls v Los Angeles FC | Sunday 5th August 2018, 23:00
Sunday’s only fixture is a mouth-watering East v West clash between the New York Red Bulls and Los Angeles FC. This is another standout game, which should have a guarantee of goals.
The Red Bulls had put pressure on league leaders Atlanta before slipping up with a 3-2 home defeat against Columbus Crew last weekend.
LAFC are one of the most entertaining sides in Major League Soccer with a lot of attacking talent within their ranks. Possessing Adama Diomande, Carlos Vela and Diego Rossi, they do not have a problem finding the back of the net.
As well as finding it easy to score, they do have an issue with conceding. They have conceded 10 goals in their last three fixtures on the road, and that will make great reading for the prolific Bradley Wright-Phillips. The Englishman recently became the fastest player to reach 100 MLS goals, so he will be licking his lips ahead of this Sunday’s clash.
The Red Bulls need a win to try and keep the heat on Atlanta, but they won’t have it all their own way against an LAFC side who have already picked up impressive wins on the road.
Six out of LAFC’s last eight games in MLS have seen Over 3.5 Goals (11/10 SkyBet), with four of them featuring five goals or more.
