National League Tips | 9th January 2016

THERE’S still a busy National League programme despite the FA Cup action. Callum Jones (@Goaldust) gives us his three best bets.

Torquay United v Braintree Town | Saturday 15:00

Torquay may have picked up their first win since October on Boxing Day against Forest Green, but they still remain six points adrift from safety, and have the worst home record in the division (P12 W2 D2 L8).

In contrast, Braintree have been formidable away from home (P13 W7 D3 L3) and only Cheltenham and Eastleigh have picked up more points on the road this season.

They may have faced a tricky Christmas period, but a couple of recent postponements should have left them well rested, and having only lost one of their last six in the league, I won’t think twice about the odds against you can grab about an away win.

Bromley v Southport | Saturday 15:00

Only Cheltenham have picked up more points in their last six league games than Southport, who have reinvented themselves from relegation candidates to mid table mixers. Their last five games have yielded 22 goals; an average of 4.4, which is ridiculous, and that even includes a 1-0 win!

They travel to Bromley on Saturday, who have scored in every home fixture so far this season. Both teams have scored in every one of their last four home fixtures, and there’s been an average of 3.5 goals a game.

This week’s tip has copped in each of those games, and I’ll take it to happen again at just a smudge under even money.

Boreham Wood v Cheltenham | Saturday 15:00

Cheltenham have the best away record in the division, and have conceded just 10 goals in 13 games on the road, while Saturday’s hosts Boreham Wood have averaged less than a goal a game in their own back yard. There’s been under 2.5 goals in eight of their last nine home games.

The Robins have conceded only four goals in their last seven away games, and I think they should be capable of keeping things tight in this one. The away side to win to nil is generally 7/4, but there’s more value to be had in the Match Result & Under Goals markets.

Under 3.5 is your safe bet, but 11/8 is more than reasonable for a bet that should be odds on, in my opinion.
