NON-LEAGUE expert Paul Maddison (@LouthBigDog) shares his favourite fancy from Tuesday night’s National League card.
Eastleigh v Barnet | Tuesday 2nd April 2019, 19:45
There are just three ties in the National League this Tuesday as the teams with games in -and catch up. Two of those teams are Eastleigh and Barnet and I found a cracking looking bet I like the look of at odds-against.
Eastleigh head into this game occupying the final play-off spot and they look like they are timing their run just right to be involved in at the end of the regular season. A win here would cement them further in the top seven and give them the confidence to push on.
The Spitfires have been impressive of late, winning six of their last eight encounters on home turf and nine of their last 12 overall. Their star striker Paul McCallum missed out the 3-2 win against Hartlepool at the weekend but that didn’t stop the Hampshire-based club finding the net on three occasions.
McCallum – Eastleigh’s leading scorer with 22 goals to his name – remains doubtful for this encounter, but a return against Barnet hasn’t been ruled out at this point.
Barnet themselves are on a good run of form; unbeaten in six with four draws, holding both Salford and Leyton Orient to stalemates. The Bees haven’t been great in front of goal in that period though, netting just four goals in those six encounters.
Looking a bit further, Darren Currie’s visitors have been struggling a bit on the road. They are nine games without a win away from The Hive and have scored just once in their last five. The capital club sit in 16th with no chance of relegation or promotion so Eastleigh should be the team with the extra motivation here.
Boylesports are generously offering 11/8 on a home victory and that’s a price I can’t ignore.
