NON-LEAGUE expert Paul Maddison (@LouthBigDog) shares his favourite fancies from Saturday afternoon’s coupon.
Eastleigh v Salford | Saturday 3rd November 2018, 15:00
Salford moved back to the top of the table on Tuesday night after beating Barnet, but that might not be long lived as there are no fewer than five teams all within three points of the league leaders.
Since Andy Hessenthaler left Eastleigh their form has been a bit patchy (W1-D1-L2) with one of the losses coming at home to lower league opposition in the FA Cup.
Salford are now 16 games unbeaten, but they have drawn a couple of games recently that they should have maybe won. Their away form has been excellent though, winning six on the bounce and scoring an impressive 16 goals.
At better than even-money the Ammies look a nice price to win here, but I fancy the goals market more.
Seven of Salford’s last eight have all seen three or more goals. Their expensive frontline are doing what’s expected of them, but they do seem to concede more goals than they would like to. They have conceded in five straight games now in a stretch where they have only played one of the better teams in the division.
Eastleigh can play their part too; although not prolific in front of goal they have notched in their last eight league games and in Paul McCallum they have a striker who is in-form and knows where the net is.
I’m more than happy to take the 19/20 with Bet365 on Over 2.5 Goals here.
Solihull Moors v Boreham Wood | Saturday 3rd November 2018, 15:00
Both these teams drew in midweek, although Solihull should have won their game at home to Halifax, and added to their already impressive home record, they looked much the better team and even missed a penalty.
I fancy the Moors to get back to winning ways and add to the six home wins they’ve accumulated already this term and 11/8 looks a great price with William Hill.
Boreham Wood have picked up just one point in their last four away fixtures and will probably leave empty handed again.
Wrexham v Gateshead | Saturday 3rd November 2018, 15:00
I think this could be a game dominated by two very good and in-form defences.
Wrexham have been excellent at the back for a couple of seasons now. It’s no coincidence that area improved with the signing of Shaun Pearson. In 18 games they have been breached just 10 times.
Gateshead, whose defensive line up includes ex-Newcastle defender Mike Williamson, have been solid recently. On Tuesday they conceded in the 93rd minute against Fylde, the first goal they had shipped in five games across all competitions.
In each of their last five league games they both have seen just eight goals scored. Seven of Wrexham’s last eight games have seen Under 2.5 Goals and 11 of Gateshead’s 15 have also featured fewer than three goals.
SkyBet are 4/5 on Under 2.5 Goals – I thought it would have been much shorter.
