AFTER a strong Saturday, Non-League expert Paul Maddison (@LouthBigDog) returns to share his favourite fancies from Tuesday’s National League action.
Maidenhead v Wrexham | Tuesday 14th August 2018, 19:45
The games come thick and fast at this time of year in the National League with the fourth round of matches taking place just 10 days after the season began.
Wrexham have shown already that they are going to be difficult to break down – last season’s meanest defence are yet to concede a goal in their opening three games.
That probably shouldn’t be too much of a surprise as the Dragons have kept together the back four that played the majority of last term, including for me, the best centre back pairing in the league, Manny Smith and Shaun Pearson.
Wrexham’s main problem last season was at the other end of the pitch. They’ve brought in Mike Fondop-Talom from Halifax, who has started the season brightly with two goals already and looks a real handful, alongside the experienced Stuart Beavon who has joined on loan from Coventry.
Part-time Maidenhead haven’t made the best start to their second season in the National League – they’ve picked up just one point in their opening three fixtures after playing three teams that the bookies expected to struggle this season.
The Magpies have conceded six goals thus far, which is the highest total in the league. The hosts will also be without their captain, Alan Massey, who picked up two bookings at the weekend against Dagenham & Redbridge.
The betting angle
Wrexham are available at just short of 2/1 to win the match which looks a cracking bet – I’m giving myself a bit of a safety net though, and backing them off a scratch 0 start on the Asian Handicap line at 42/41 with BetVictor.
This bet is exactly the same as Draw No Bet but it’s always worth checking both markets as you sometimes get slightly differing odds.
Draw No Bet is evens with the same company, for example. That’s not a big difference, but the pennies are better off in your pocket than the bookies.
