NON-LEAGUE expert Paul Maddison (@LouthBigDog) shares his favourite fancies from a Good Friday card of National League action.
Bromley v Wrexham | Good Friday 30th March 2018, 15:00
Bromley booked a trip to Wembley last weekend with a draw in the second leg of the FA Trophy semi final. The final will be a massive game for most of their players which could be the only opportunity in their careers to play at the national stadium. Often the case before such matches teams can take their eye off the ball slightly and league form can suffer.
They played again on Tuesday night with a trip to the north east as they lost to Hartlepool. Bromley’s league form hasn’t been great over the past two months anyway with their sole win coming at rock bottom Guiseley, they now sit nine points off the play offs, although they have three gams in hand.
Wrexham are currently on the longest unbeaten run in the National League after going 15 games without tasting defeat. They have however drawn an incredible 10 of those games. With automatic promotion still their aim they must turn them draws into victories to stand a chance. They have won two of their last three though so hopefully can make a final push for the title.
I was tempted to put up a Wrexham win at decent odds, but all those draws are putting me off a bit, they are still available with Marathon at 31/25 Draw No Bet (Marathon) so that’s the call here.
Guiseley v Leyton Orient | Good Friday 30th March 2018, 15:00
Guiseley look all but relegated, only a great escape of epic proportions can save them. They have lost nine of their last 11 matches and conceded 2+ goals in eight of those.
A win here for The O’s should all but see them retain their place in the National League for next season. A season where they probably expected more, but it does take time to adjust to the league and after a poor start to the season they’ve not been too bad over the last few months.
Their away form of late has been especially impressive with four wins in their last seven on the road in the league.
Orient are available at a shade over evens (53/50 Marathon) to put another nail in Guiseley’s coffin and that looks a decent bet.
Solihull Moors v Aldershot | Good Friday 30th March 2018, 15:00
For the second week running, I’m backing against Aldershot.
The Shots sit in the play off places but I don’t see them making a late challenge for the title, other teams up their are in much better form at the moment, but who can predict anything in this league. They have just two wins in seven with a 7-1 loss to Fylde tucked away in the middle of that run.
Their opponents Solihull Moors looked almost certain for relegation a few months ago but an impressive run of results (and performances) has seen them give themselves a great chance of staying up.
Crucial to this run has been their home form. Unbeaten in 10 at home with seven victories, very impressive for a team that is fourth from bottom in the league.
They’ve signed a couple of players who looked comfortable in League 2 in the past couple of seasons in Jamey Osborne who provides the creative spark in midfield and Adi Yussuf who will score (and has already) goals for them.
Again, I like the look of a straight win for Solihull but they are available at 7/6 +0 on the Asian Handicap (essentially draw no bet) with Unibet. They are odds-on with every other firm in this market and the draw no bet market so unsure if they really want to lay them or they’ve got their prices wrong.
