THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE returns on Tuesday night as Manchester United welcome Juventus to Old Trafford. Daniel McCulloch (@DMcCulloch1984) shares his betting thoughts.
Manchester United v Juventus | Tuesday 23rd October 2018, 20:00 | BT Sport
Manchester United host Juventus at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening and try as I might, I simply can’t have Juve as such clear favourites in this encounter.
I don’t doubt that United have been a shadow of their former selves ever since Sir Alex Ferguson left, but at 6/5 with BetVictor in the Draw No Bet market then I believe the home side are worth a few pennies.
One reason I would look to oppose the Old Lady is that this is the toughest game in the group for them and having beaten Valencia away and the Swiss side Young Boys at home, a draw would do very nicely for the Italian champions.
A further supporting argument is Mourinho’s home record as United boss against the top sides in home games. Against the Big Six in the Premier League it reads W6-D2-L3.
Juventus are certainly comparable with these sides and it’s worth noting that Liverpool went off at a similar price last season and came unstuck. Moreover, while Juventus did win against Tottenham at Wembley last season, they lost the shot count 23-8, so it was hardly a convincing victory.
The draw seems like the most likely result here to me, but I will air on the side of caution and keep United onside.
