AFTER last week’s humiliating defeat in Denmark Manchester United have it all to do in this second leg against Midtjylland. Chris Graham (@chrisgraham79) takes a look.
Manchester United v FC Midtjylland | Thursday 20:05 | BT Sport 2
What a car crash Manchester United have been this season? Some of us actually felt they could compete for the title this campaign, we’ve got egg on our faces now *wipes egg away*.
There have been many low moments for the huge club over the last few months but perhaps their 2-1 defeat in Denmark to FC Midtjylland last week really was the nadir.
It leaves them in a tricky position to qualify for the next round. Well, that’s what I think, the layers are far more cool about the prospect of them going through with short quotes on them winning here and in the To Qualify market. Too short in my opinion.
United are best price 1/4 to win here at Old Trafford. Seriously though, anyone backing this team at odds of 1/4 to win any match need their head examined.
Louis Van Gaal’s side have won just six of their last 19 matches and have defeat to not only Midtjylland but 19th place Sunderland in the league fresh in their minds.
On what recent performances would you feel comfortable staking your wage at 1/4? I can only find one in the last four months and that was the 3-0 win over Stoke in January.
In Europe this season they’ve been far from convincing with an embarrassing exit from the Champions League top of the shame list. To spend all that summer money and fail to emerge from a group containing Wolfsburg, PSV and CSKA Moscow is poor.
As for the Danes they knocked Southampton out of the early rounds of the Europa League and from there qualified in second place in the group stages below Napoli and above Club Brugge and Legia Warsaw.
Midtjylland went to Belgium and beat Club Brugge 3-1 but on the flip side were tore apart 5-0 by Napoli. For me though Napoli are a far superior side to Manchester United.
The crux of the matter here is that this game has been priced up as if Manchester United will bolt up with ease but that’s a view I’m willing to take on.
Van Gaal’s side have scored just 33 goals this season in the league. To contextualise that, that’s just one more than Sunderland. Hardly prolific in front of goal.
In their last 26 matches Man Utd have scored more than one goal on just eight occasions. Those include matches with League One Shrewsbury and Championship side Derby.
With all that in mind I’ll have a suck on Under 2.5 Man Utd goals at 3/4 with Betway and add a punt on a 2-0 United win at 6/1 with Bet Victor.
Best Bets
Manchester United v FC Midtjylland – Under 2.5 Man Utd Goals (3/4 Betway)
Manchester United v FC Midtjylland – Man Utd to win 2-0 (6/1 BetVictor)
