THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE continues on Tuesday night. Here Adam Goodwin (@AGJournalism) picks out his favourite fancy from the match-up between Manchester City and Shakhtar Donetsk.
Manchester City v Shakhtar Donetsk | Tuesday 26th September 2017, 19:45 | BT Sport
Manchester City are scoring goals for fun at the moment. The Citizens have bagged 22 goals in their last five games under Pep Guardiola, and not only are they scoring goals, they’re playing some scintillating football.
Four of those 22 goals were scored in their first game in Group F a couple of weeks ago, where they battered Feyenoord 4-0 in the Rotterdam. Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus, Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling are all chipping in with goals so the Shakhtar defence will have to be on high-alert at the Etihad.
Shakhtar achieved one of the shock results of matchday one by beating Napoli 2-1. Napoli are currently unstoppable domestically but the Ukrainian champions put a stop to their great run of form thanks to goals from Taison and Facundo Ferreyra. In the league, Shakhtar have only lost one from their first 10 games, scoring 21 goals in the process.
The betting angle
Manchester City have scored an average of 4.50 goals per-game in their last six outings, and they have netted at least five in 67% of their home games this season. There have been Over 3.5 Goals in 67% of their last six games too, an encouraging sign for Pep.
Shakthar’s strong Brazilian influence could test City’s infamously fragile defence, but the Miners lost all three away games when they last featured in the Champions League group stage a couple of years ago.
With those stats in mind, I fancy goals in Manchester. Over 2.5 goals is priced at around the 1/3 mark with Betfair which is extremely short, but I’m confident they’ll be Over 3.5 Goals which is 10/11 with Betway.
I fancy an end-to-end encounter and, hopefully, plenty of goals.
