WILLIE DUNCAN (@Willie_Duncan) shares his betting verdict on Saturday’s Premier League tussle between Liverpool and West Brom at Anfield.
Liverpool v West Brom | Saturday 17:30 | BT Sport 1
Those of us who tuned into Liverpool’s match against Manchester United on Monday night anticipating an avalanche of goals are entitled to feel aggrieved.
Since Jurgen Klopp became the Kaiser of the Kop, the goals have tended to flow when the Reds have been in action at Anfield.
Despite the dour goalless draw that came our way from Merseyside on Monday night, I’m willing to give Klopp’s charges one more chance to show me how good at going forward they actually are when West Brom visit on Saturday evening.
The Baggies will be hard to break down; Tony Pulis’ side are certainly stuffy and, in fact, their record of just eight goals against in the top-flight this season is actually better than that of Liverpool.
Any defensive deficiencies that the hosts have, however, has been largely negated by their usually-dependable ability to put the ball in the net – indeed, Liverpool have scored more than two goals in half of their competitive fixtures so far this season.
The Reds, when they are in the mood, are even more rampant on home soil, for each of Liverpool’s last six league wins at Anfield has come by a margin of at least two goals – with the home side scoring a superb 22 goals and conceding just three.
Four of the last five meetings between these two teams has ended in stalemate, with goals scored at both ends in all but one of the previous six meetings – and Pulis’ side will feel that they are capable of causing further problems for the hosts having come so close to toppling Tottenham at the Hawthorns last week.
The Reds, however, will be determined to regain their swagger having drawn a blank against Jose Mourinho’s men and, despite failing to make much headway on Monday night, Klopp’s classy outfit can be trusted to turn on the style – and get amongst the goals – when they line up against the Baggies at Anfield.
The 3/10 (William Hill) quote on offer for a home win is so skinny that it’s almost beyond comprehension, but there is value to be found if you delve deeper – and it is the 6/5 (BetVictor) available for Liverpool to score more than two goals that catches my eye.
The Reds can put their Monday blues behind them and run riot again on Merseyside this weekend; as such, backing Klopp’s men to score three or more goals for the sixth time this season is the recommended path to profit for punters.
