Liverpool v Salzburg: Rampant Reds to show no mercy

Liverpool

THE Champions League continues on Wednesday night as defending champions Liverpool welcome Salzburg to Anfield. Chris Clark (@ChrisClark1975) shares his verdict.

Liverpool v Salzburg | Wednesday 2nd October 2019, 20:00 | BT Sport

Liverpool are currently unbeaten in 19 home league games in Europe. It’s a tremendous record and you have to go back to 2014 for their last defeat (3-0 against Real Madrid).

Liverpool have turned Anfield into a fortress both in domestic football and in European football. Just ask Barcelona about the atmosphere at Anfield.

RB Salzburg in their current incarnation are experiencing their first season in the Champions League, and one would imagine they won’t have experienced anything like a European night under the lights at Anfield.

Will this young Austrian side freeze? They could well do. Previously in the group, Liverpool lost a close encounter away to Napoli, whilst Alf Inge-Haaland’s boy introduced himself to bigger sides in Europe by bagging a hat-trick at home to Genk.

Can Haaland hit the back of the net again? Not this evening, you fancy he will cut an isolated figure whilst Liverpool pour forward.

All angles point to a comfortable Liverpool victory, and Liverpool will come roaring out of the traps backed by that legendary atmosphere. Liverpool to be leading after 15 minutes is 29/10 with Coral, and that looks like great value to me. Let’s remember Salzburg will not have experienced anything like this, and also due to the previous results in the group, Liverpool need three points.

Liverpool’s front three don’t tend to miss Champion’s League matches. In fact Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane only missed two matches between them last season. Mane was an ever present in their victorious campaign. They will be peppering the Salzburg goal.

So why not take a look at Salah, Firmino and Mane all scoring anytime at 7/1 with 888. Liverpool had 141 shots on goal throughout their successful Champions League campaign, roughly converting to 11 shots on goal per-game, and it’s worth factoring into that number the poor performances away to Napoli, PSG and Red Star Belgrade.

Best Bets

Liverpool v Salzburg – Liverpool to be winning after 15 minutes (29/10 Coral)

Liverpool v Salzburg – Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino to score at anytime (7/1 888)
