WILLIE DUNCAN (@Willie_Duncan) enjoyed a cracking punting weekend so we’ve asked him to get on the case again for Tuesday’s FA Cup replay between Lincoln and Ipswich.
Lincoln v Ipswich | Tuesday 20:05 | BBC1
The BBC cameras will roll into Sincil Bank ahead of Lincoln’s FA Cup third round replay against Ipswich on Tuesday night and that can only mean one thing – that there is a whiff of a potential “Cupset” in the air.
Lincoln – the National League leaders – came agonisingly close to getting the job done against the Championship side when these two teams locked horns earlier this month, before Ipswich’s Tom Lawrence saved the day for Mick McCarthy’s men with just four minutes left on the clock.
Odds compilers caution
Have Lincoln blown their big chance, then, to write themselves into FA Cup folklore?
The odds compilers aren’t entirely convinced that they have and the fact that Danny Cowley’s charges are as short as 5/2 (Bet365) suggests the Tractor Boys may not have a comfortable 90 minutes ahead.
The flip side, of course, to the bookies’ caution regarding the prospect of a home win is that those who fancy Ipswich to show their superiority at the second time of asking have the opportunity to back McCarthy’s team at a chunky 13/10 (Betfair).
This match is being beamed live across the nation and I’d imagine that a fair number of neutrals tuning in would dearly love to see Lincoln claim a famous victory but, failing that, a glut of goals would certainly keep the viewers interested.
Goals expected at Sincil Bank
There is a strong chance that the goals will flow at Sincil Bank, for there have been more than two goals scored in each of the last seven matches that the National League side have played – with both teams scoring in each of those matches.
Ipswich, too, are not exactly backwards when it comes to going forwards either. Indeed, Ipswich bagged three points and three goals from their match against Blackburn at Portman Road at the weekend, while the Tractor Boys have scored two or more goals in four of their last six outings.
McCarthy’s men, however, rarely have things entirely their own way these days and the former Wolves boss will be acutely aware that his team have managed a clean sheet in just one of their last 14 matches in all competitions.
The betting angle
Backing goals galore, then, could provide punters with a reasonably reliable path to profit ahead of this Cup clash and it is the 87/100 (Marathon) quote for this match to produce more than two goals that carries most appeal here.
The selection would have landed in all but one of Ipswich’s last seven games and the trend should continue at Sincil Bank on Tuesday night.
