Ligue 1 Tips | 3rd December 2014

MARK O’Haire (@MarkOHaire) highlights his best bets from tonight’s Ligue 1 card in France.

Metz v Bordeaux | Wednesday 18.00 | BT Sport 2

Bordeaux collected their first clean sheet since the opening day of the season on Sunday as they dispatched Lille and moved level on points with Lyon in third.

Despite that dour 1-0 win, Willy Sagnol’s men have bucked the trend of French football to be involved in a number of high-scoring encounters. Les Girondins have seen 9/15 (60%) league matches produce three goals or more whilst 11/15 (73%) have seen Both Teams To Score winners.

With Metz conceding at least twice in their last four matches and recording just four points from their last 21 on offer, the visitors will fancy their chances. But having been beaten in four of their last six on the road, I’m happier backing Both Teams To Score at 11/10 with Betfair.

The hosts may have failed to net in five of their last seven games in league football but at St Symphorien they’ve netted two or more goals in five of their seven outings, including against PSG and Lyon.

Montpellier v St Etienne | Wednesday 18.00

St Etienne recorded a historic derby win over Lyon on Sunday, their first at home in 16 attempts to their bitter rivals, but they’re worth opposing for Wednesday’s trip to Montpellier.

Les Verts are likely to be riding the crest of a wave following that 3-0 success. It was the first time since August that Christophe Galtier’s side had netted twice in a game and they celebrated the victory jubilantly. Will they be mentally ready for this? I’m not so sure.

Montpellier are a tough cookie to crack on home soil. Rolland Courbis’ outfit held Caen 1-1 away at the weekend but in their last appearance at the Altrad Stadium they absolutely battered Toulouse, making it five wins from six on home soil.

La Paillade have kept clean sheets in four of their seven home fixtures and scored at least twice in the same number. They look underrated by the bookies and look worth a poke at 5/4 with BetVictor in the Draw No Bet market.
