Golf: European Masters betting preview

European Masters

GOLF analyst Lewis Blain (@LewisBlainSport) shares his betting thoughts ahead of the European Masters from Crans-sur-Sierre.

European Masters | 29th August – 1st September 2019 | Sky Sports

  • Crans-sur-Sierre, Switzerland.
  • Par 71 – 6,850 yards.
  • 5k above sea level – ball travels further (around 6-8%).
  • Tree-lined course with sloping fairways and tiny greens.
  • Course experience key.
  • Greens in Reg or Scrambling.
  • Par-5s easy scoring opportunities.
  • Bogey avoidance (missing the right spots, turning mistakes into pars)
  • Ball-striking – SG:APP,OTT,T2G

Andrew Johnston (66/1 Betfair)

Outside a worthy group of favourites, Beef first catches the eye and even though he has been tipped elsewhere, he catches the eye. Top 40 in all the aforementioned stats which is peaked by being 15th for Scrambling and 25th for GIR.

Last week he recorded a T10 after a lengthy layoff. Encouraging signs. His only Euro Tour win came on a similar test at Valderrama. He’s also got a 3rd place round here.

Alexander Bjork (80/1 Betfair)

The Swede is trending in the right path, shaking off a month worth of rust to go T23-T20 in the last two outings. He too has a top-20 around Crans.

Bjork ranks 5th for Scrambling and 53rd for GIR as well as 12th for Bogey Avoidance. He has history at the Hong Kong Open, in France and at the British Masters too – three places that correlate with previous winners.

Matthias Schwab (90/1 Betfair)

Scrambling king Schwab cannot be missed this week, he ranks 2nd in that stat as well as 26th for GIR, and top-40 for everything else we want to consider.

He returned from five weeks off and a poor run of three straight MCs to record a T5 at the Czech Masters and has a handful of top-10s this season including at the BMW International which winners of this have won.

Adri Arnaus (90/1 Betfair)

This is one player I won’t miss the boat on and his odds are rather tasty – even if he did miss the cut last week. Before that, he returned to action with a runner-up at the Czech and earlier in the season, Arnaus finished 2nd at Valderrama as already mentioned.

He’s going to win on the ET sooner rather than later it’s just a matter of when. He’s 10th on Tour for GIR and 18th for SG:T2G.

Ashun Wu (100/1 Betfair)

Wu loves this track and his rounding into some decent form. His last two outings at Crans read T6-T9. Last week he recorded a T20 at the Scandinavian Masters where his final round ultimately let him down.

This time last year he won the KLM Open so maybe that can swing in our favour, especially if that T20 is any proof. He may be worth a go in the FRL market too.
