MARK O’Haire’s (@MarkOHaire) been in fine Football League form. So can he continue his hot streak on Saturday?
Blackpool v Doncaster | Saturday 15.00
Blackpool fielded weakened teams in both the FA Cup and Johnstone Paint Trophy this week with boss Neil McDonald prioritising the Tangerines’ efforts in League One.
After a sticky start, the Seasiders have started to find form and confidence. No longer are Blackpool marooned in the bottom-four and McDonald has moulded a difficult to beat side with a very solid base.
The hosts have W3-D2-L0 in their last five league outings and at Bloomfield Road they’ve leaked just twice in five games since a smashing from Walsall. The Seasiders will fancy their prospects of extending that timely hot-streak on Saturday.
Doncaster have suffered eight defeats in their most recent 10 away days and managed just one victory on the road this term. New manager Darren Ferguson faces a tough job in turning the woeful travelling form out and I’m unconvinced they’ll be good enough to succeed here.
But rather than take a chance on the Tangerines, I prefer to take a look at the goals-markets with two low-scoring teams on show. Donny have netted a divisional-low 13 goals whilst Blackpool have notched just two more themselves.
The visitors have failed to find the back of the bet in six of their last eight away and so when you tie in Blackpool’s record of nine Under 2.5 Goals winners in their last 11, a repeat looks a decent selection at 1.82 (Favourit).
Gillingham v Bury | Saturday 15.00
Both Gillingham and Bury have been going great guns in League One and I’m hopeful their Priestfield Stadium match-up will reward punters looking for a goal-heavy game. The duo are high on the entertainment stakes in the third tier and a Both Teams To Score bet looks value, even at 1.73 (Favourit).
Gillingham have W6-D2-L0 on home soil and the second-highest League One scorers with 31 goals to their name. Those eight fixtures at their Kent base have produced 20 goals whilst 11/16 (69%) of their matches have featured BTTS winners.
Sixth-placed Bury are also right in the promotion mix with only three losses to their name this season. However, the Shakers have leaked 24 goals already – that’s more than any other top-half rival with 11/16 (69%) games also clinching successful Both Teams To Score selections.
As well as the aforementioned stats, this contest pits together the two teams with the best shot conversion rate in League One and with a 69% success rate for BTTS bets equating to a 4/9 play, the 1.73 Favourit looks great value.
Yeovil v Stevenage | Saturday 15.00
League Two strugglers Yeovil host League Two strugglers Stevenage on Saturday and with neither side particularly standing out from a punting perspective, the best play could be to take on another goal-heavy game.
The Glovers have taken just two points from a possible 24, conceding 15 goals. At Huish Park they’ve W2-D1-L5 despite facing just one team currently higher than 10th in the table. Paul Sturrock’s charges have scored in six of their last seven home but are still looking for a first clean sheet in front of their own fans.
Stevenage are winless in 10 on the road (W0-D5-L5) and have conceded 30 goals in 16 games this season, more than any other team in League Two and second only to Rotherham in the entire Football League. A huge 23 of those goals have come after the half-time interval.
I think William Hill have underestimated the chances on this fixture featuring three or more goals with Over 2.5 Goals a 1.91 poke. Five of Yeovil’s last seven as hosts have broken the line with three of those matches even featuring four or more goals.
Teddy Sheringham’s visitors haven’t kept their sheets clean in 12 games whilst nine of their last 15 matches have had Over 2.5 goals with Stevenage scoring in each of the last four despite taking on Oxford, Portsmouth, Wycombe and Northampton.
Best Bets
Blackpool v Doncaster – Under 2.5 Goals (1.82 Favourit)
Gillingham v Bury – Both Teams To Score (1.73 Favourit)
Yeovil v Stevenage – Over 2.5 Goals (1.91 Favourit)
