BETTING industry expert Tommy Buckley (@tbuckleythinks) highlights a yankee from Saturday’s domestic football to keep your interest during the international break.
The first international break of this season means there is no Premier League or Championship action to focus on but in turn that means that League One and League Two can step into the spotlight.
I’ve gone through the fixture lists and both divisions look really interesting, and I think I’ve found four games to concentrate on that provide, bets worth considering on their own, but also for a fun yankee to cheer on.
Southend v Peterborough | Saturday 8th September 2018, 15:00
Peterborough go into this weekend as the flag bearers in League One after a fantastic start that has seen them collect five wins and a draw from their opening six matches.
Steve Evans has got the Posh flying and playing with real confidence so I expect them to get a good result at a struggling Southend side, who only have two wins from their six and also have a -1 goal difference.
In my opinion, a Peterborough win priced around 13/8 (Ladbrokes) looks well worth taking.
Doncaster v Luton | Saturday 8th September 2018, 15:00
Having worked at the Keepmoat Stadium on match days when Doncaster were in the Championship, I’ve had a soft spot for Rovers ever since, so it’s good to see them having a fair start to this season.
Doncaster have only lost one of their opening six league games – yes they’ve had a few 0-0 home draws within that but I feel taking on a Luton side who only have one point and two goals from three away matches makes this a sound opportunity for the hosts.
You can get a home win around the 6/4 (Ladbrokes) mark, and that appeals to me.
Portsmouth v Shrewsbury | Saturday 8th September 2018, 15:00
Portsmouth are enjoying a very good season so far in League One and a home match against struggling Shrewsbury looks like a great opportunity to make it four from four at Fratton Park.
So far Pompey have 100% home record in the league with eight goals scored and only one conceded. They welcome a Shrewsbury side who sit 23rd with a W0-D3-L3 record and only four goals scored.
Given the form and the statistics, I’d have backed Portsmouth at 1/2 to win so the fact you can get around 5/6 (Ladbrokes) makes including a home here win something I can’t refuse.
Morecambe v Swindon | Saturday 8th September 2018, 15:00
Some will argue that it’s too early in the season for statistics but even if you think that way it’s basically impossible to ignore the fact Swindon have played six league games and all six have been Both Teams To Score bank.
Nothing is guaranteed of course but if you can get around 8/11 (Ladbrokes) on a repeat then surely it’s worth putting your faith in the stats at those odds.
I’ll be backing Both Teams To Score, I’d also give Swindon to win and BTTS strong consideration, around the 4/1 mark.
