CAN Leicester make it four wins on the bounce against Denmark? Chris Graham (@chrisgraham79) previews the match for us.
FC Copenhagen v Leicester | Tuesday 19:45 | BT Sport Europe
The fairytale that has enveloped Leicester over the last 15 months rings hard and true in the Champions League at the moment. While their Premier League defence has taken a few knocks since mid-August it’s been all smiles in Europe’s premier competition.
Leicester were one of only three sides to win all of their opening three fixtures and a place in the Last 16 is within touching distance after such an impressive start.
Club Brugge were swatted away in Belgium while Claudio Raineri’s side were perhaps a little fortunate to sneak two narrow home wins over FC Porto and FC Copenhagen in Matchday 2 and 3 respectively.
Porto hogged 60% of possession against Leicester five weeks ago and also had double the amount of shots as their hosts. This pattern continued in the game against Copenhagen a fortnight ago when the Foxes had four fewer corners and half the shots on target as their Danish neighbours.
So, have Leicester lucked out so far? Well, perhaps there is an element to that but as we know from last season this side have bundles of resolve and determination.
On Wednesday they face FC Copenhagen again but this time in the tough surrounds of Northern Europe. Copenhagen have an astonishing home record and haven’t lost in their Telia Parken stadium in 15 months.
If you think that’s impressive, the Danes have won 14 of their last 15 home matches and crushed Club Brugge 4-0 in their only home match in this group. In the competition as a whole this season it’s four wins out of four with 14 goals notched and none conceded.
When you consider the Copenhagen sides home stats and the fact Leicester have struggled away from home this season it’s hard not to take a couple of looks at the 24/17 on the home side.
I find it hard though not to be allured by Leicester in this competition. Like in the Premier League last season they’re grinding out results and I can see them putting up a fight here.
I’ll back the Draw at 23/10 with Paddy Power and have a chomp on BetVictor’s 6/1 that the game ends 1-1. Yes, FC Copenhagen should win looking at the form but there’s something brilliantly resilient about this Leicester side. Let the fairytale continue.
