If Dean Smith could choose an opposition at this stage of the season then Everton would surely have been in the top two or three of his list. The Toffees have been generally woeful since the Premier League resumed and watching them play it is easy to see why.
Eight points from six games does not seem too poor a return but the two victories came against rock bottom Norwich and a smash and grab against Leicester. Carlo Ancelotti’s side were comprehensively outplayed by Wolves at the weekend and before that were very fortunate to get a point at home to Southampton.
The Italian will be looking for a reaction against Villa but looking at the personnel at his disposal it is hard to see where it will come from. Richarlison is obviously a threat and Dominic Calvert-Lewin an industrious striker but beyond that there are a series of underperforming players. Alex Iwobi has contributed very little this season while it certainly seems like their best days are behind both Theo Walcott and Gyfil Sigurdsson.
Villa’s victory over Crystal Palace was slightly fortunate in that the Eagles had a perfectly good goal disallowed at 0-0. Moreover, while performances may have been better post lockdown than pre it is still very hard to see where the goals will come from in this side.
Still, one may be enough here and should Villa score I struggle to see Everton managing two so I will back The Villains at 7/4 with Unibet in the Draw No Bet market.
